There are non-invasive treatment options to consider to treat chronic and acute pain. Shockwave therapy (also referred to as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. Shockwave therapy is effective in targeting pain in muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bone. ESWT is a safe, natural, and painless therapy that steers people away from invasive procedures and pain medications. Dr. Christophe Oliveira and his team offers shockwave therapy to patients at New Jersey Disc Center.
How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?
Shockwave is a non-invasive therapy, meaning it doesn’t require surgery. A device is applied to the skin of the affected area for the delivery of high-energy sound waves (shockwaves) to trigger the body’s healing response. The shockwaves create small micro-cavitation bubbles within the tissue that expand and burst, generating a localized inflammatory response which stimulates cell regeneration and blood vessel growth in the injured area. The process stimulates blood flow and new tissue growth and breaks down damaged tissue. This leads to pain relief and tissue repair.
